Christmas Program
Last night was our 2010 Christmas program. It was the best program that we have had since I arrived in 2008. The elementary teachers and students did an amazing job! The "Mega Praise" team,"Upper School" worship team and the Hornig family all did an amazing job! We had a packed house and it was a great time of honoring Jesus. I am very thankful for Mrs. Jennifer Dungan who directed the program. Thank you for a wonderful night!
I pray all of you have a safe Christmas break and a blessed New Year, 2011!

Glorious Giving
PTF will be sending information to all parents about "Glorious Giving". This is when parents can send in any amount to give to teachers for Christmas. We have several teachers who have used this for their children and visits to family. It has been a huge blessing to the staff and it also shows our appreciation for the sacrifice they make daily.
We are very blessed to have staff who love Jesus and they truly feel they are called to be at JICS. Thank you for any gift you can send. I appreciate my staff and I am very thankful they want to be at JICS long term. Please contact Mindi Gillet or June Hirschmann, if you have questions.

Lions Football Season- State Playoffs
The varsity team finished 6-4 for the regular season. They are the first team in SCISA history to have a winning season in their first year and make the playoffs! We play a very strong Jefferson Davis team in Blackville, South Carolina. Directions are on the football page section, click their name. The game starts at 7:30.
It is a 2-hour trip, but we want to send as many parents who can attend. Come out and support the Lions as they start their playoff run! We have been very blessed to have coaches who not only develop our team athletically, but also are a great example as men of Character and Integrity.

High School Retreat
We had a wonderful retreat in NC! Our speaker was Simon Guillebaud, he shared his experience as a missionary in Burundi, Africa. He also encouraged the students to seek a passion for Jesus. The ministry time was amazing and the student worship team did a great job in ministering worship to the students.
The students also had several sessions in team building. It was very encouraging to see each student cheer on their class mates as they were challenged in each session and the overall spirit of the HS was strengthened.
The retreat had two other groups that were there, both were senior citizen Christian groups. The only interaction with us was during the meals. They continued to tell me how impressed they were with our students. The character and respect showed to them was a blessing and truly blessed them.
I am so thankful we can take 3 days off of school and focus on building a strong relationship with each other and the Lord. We are very blessed and honored to work with you as parents and I know it is going to be a wonderful year as we continue to develop your child academically and spiritually. Thank you for trusting and allowing us to partner with you.

Parent/Teacher Conference
The elementary teachers will have their conferences in their rooms again this year from 1:00-5:00 on October the 11th and 12th. Please call and schedule a time, all slots are scheduled ahead of time for K-4-5th graders.
Upper school will meet on the 12th in the Ark from 1:00-5:00. We will have tables set up and you will be able to talk to teachers, once their table opens up. Please be aware this is in one room and any personal communication should be discussed in private with a scheduled meeting with the teacher and parent. The teachers will show grades and be able to answer any concerns you may have about classroom grading.
We hope to see you at the conferences this year. When I started the upper school conferences two years ago, it was clearly a blessing for the parents and staff.
We have free tutoring after school and we will do all we can to partner with you and your student. I am hopeful your student will take advantage of this opportunity. I also encourage you to check your students progress daily on Ren-Web. If you have any concerns, please call the office and schedule a meeting with the teacher.

End of the Year
It is hard to believe another year is ending at JICS! As I prepare for my third year at JICS, these are some things that will be added to our school next year:
Block Scheduling
AP classes
Internship program
ACT/SAT Prep Class
Graduation went very well with seniors Matt Crepas and Kaitlyn Gochnauer as the top two seniors and their speeches were a blessing and an encouragement to the school. Tim Gochnauer gave an anointed speech and a challenge to the senior class. It was my hope that we truly honored and blessed the seniors and their families.
We will have math enrichment classes this summer. Please call the school if you are interested. We are also taking registration for basketball camp. We also have a summer camp that is taking applications and seats are filling quickly. Please see Mrs. June if you are interested in your child attending.
I know that the Lord has great things in store for JICS and I am honored to partner with you next year!
Have a great summer!

Graduation
I am looking forward to my second graduation at JICS. Last year we had an awesome class with many changes in graduation. We will continue to make graduation special and we are excited about this years speaker, Tim Gochnauer. We will also continue the tradition of the roses and the turning of the tassel.
I am excited about the new families who are coming to JICS and the new staff. We will be adding block scheduling and also AP classes. This is a modified block schedule and they will take classes on a A and B schedule weekly. My desire is to help encourage more time for group activity, one on one instruction and time to complete homework in class. I want students to be able to spend quality time at home with their families and finish school work at school.
It has been and it will continue to be my commitment to you to develop this school academically and spiritually. I know the Lord has great things in store for JICS and I am honored to partner with you.
I pray daily for all of the students, parents and faculty and I know that the Lord will prosper and bless this ministry. There are times we all struggle but as a family we can encourage one another and stand together in this great calling.

Dr. Rick Johnson

Easter
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Have a great Easter!
